Maestro Classics

Seems like we've been getting incredible opportunity after incredible opportunity for reviews lately.  Maestro Classics has been another blessing to our family.

We received The Sorcerer's Apprentice and My Name is Handel:  The Story of Water Music CDs.  As you know, we've been working on a lot more art projects lately, and it's been wonderful to have quality children's music to listen to while we create our masterpieces.  Perhaps good music begets good artwork?

Maestro Classics Review

The Handel CD was just perfect for us, as Handel is the composer we're studying right now.  The Story of Water Music, recommended for ages 5 and up, is the story of Handel's special composition for the purposes of getting back in the King's good graces.  The CD is engaging and the music is very well done.

We also really enjoyed The Sorcerer's Apprentice, recommended for ages 6 and up, and it spurned a lively discussion, and the desire to watch Fantasia to compare the two.

Brianna and Eli both said they liked The Sorcerer's Apprentice better.  Bri, because she prefers fantasy stories, and also because we'd already studied about Handel a bit, so The Sorcerer's Apprentice was "new" to them.  Jack said it was funnier, too.

In addition to listening to these while we created art projects, I had Brianna play them for Hannah to enjoy during our nap/quiet time on the weekends, as Hannah missed them while she was at school.

Some of the other different CDs available from Maestro Classics are:

Swan Lake
Peter and the Wolf
Mike Mulligan and His Steam Shovel
Casey at the Bat
Juanita the Spanish Lobster (available in both English and Spanish!)
The Soldier's Tale
The Tortoise and the Hare
Carnival of Animals (currently available only in MP3 format)

Although I don't see them up on the website yet, the bookmark that came in my package advertises The Nutcracker and Merry Pranks of Master Till as "New!" so be on the lookout for those, as well.

The CDs are $16.98 each, or they are available as MP3 downloads for $9.98 each.  The CD version contains a small activity book that goes with each disc.

While you can absolutely enjoy these CDs for children all on their own, you can get even more out of them by visiting the Maestro website.  There, you can find answers to the activity book puzzles, educational materials, home projects, and even sheet music to download!  I was thrilled to discover this, as Brianna has been learning piano this year.

The Homeschool Music Curriculum section is really comprehensive, offering multiple ideas for additional learning in history, science, geography, language arts, art, music and math for most of the available discs.  We even discovered a video about Archimedes, who we had been learning about!  There's really a lot of treasures to be found on the Maestro Classics website, including samples from the discs themselves.

You can connect with Maestro Classics on Facebook, Twitter, and Pinterest, where they even offer additional study ideas for some of the discs!  Find out what other Crew families thought about their CDs by clicking the box below.
