The Promise book review and Kindle #giveaway

Wow.  This was a really interesting book.  Thought provoking.  I enjoyed the immigrant perspective on 9/11 and learning more about Muslim/Pakistani culture.

I think sometimes we Americans have a presumed assumption of safety, and the things that Mallory experiences in The Promise opened my eyes to the fact that for much of the world, that's not the case.  I cannot begin to imagine living within the sound of gunfire on a regular basis.  Or being unable to go out by myself, simply because I'm a woman.

I don't want to give the plot away because I really think you should read this one.  It's deeper than a "fluff read," but not oppressive.  The Promise referenced in the title refers to something that happens when Mallory was teenager, and I think it was traumatic enough to leave her emotionally stunted in a way that allowed her judgement to be clouded later in life.

In a daring new novel, Beth Wiseman jumps way outside the box. The Promise will take readers far away from Amish country and small Texas towns to a dangerous place on the other side of the world. Inspired by actual events, this is the book Beth has been working toward for a long time.
